The Municipality's Annual Female Cancer and Movember awareness campaign programme was well attended by municipal employees. The Wellness Day was hosted in St George's Park on Thursday, 17 November 2022.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, heralding an annual campaign to raise awareness about the impact of breast cancer. Movember is observed in November and focuses on men's cancer and the overall health of men, hence the Municipality's annual invitation to employees to attend the annual Wellness Day for health and wellness check-ups.
Screening for cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure was conducted on male employees, while pap smears and breast cancer screening was performed on female attendees.

During the programme, Dr Mthembeni Tebelele, who was the keynote speaker, encouraged municipal employees present, to regularly visit their nearest health centres for check-ups, to exercise regularly and to eat healthy food. He also encouraged them to be mindful of abnormal signs and symptoms, as these may be indicative of cancer.

Men are more prone to prostate, colorectal, lung and skin cancer. During the month of Movember, men are encouraged to grow moustaches to create awareness about the health issues men face, to honour those who have succumbed to cancer and those who have survived the disease. The reason for embracing and growing facial hair is that many people lose their hair during cancer treatment.
