TASK Grade 11 (R341 448 – R474 720 per annum)

(Basic salary only, excluding benefits)


Qualifications and experience required:


  •  A National Diploma in Environmental Management or related field of study.
  • A valid Code EB/B driver’s licence (the incumbent will be required to obtain a municipal driver’s licence during the probationary period).
  •  Registration as Peace Officer.


Key attributes and competencies: 

  • Plant and animal identification skills and knowledge of fynbos ecology.
  • Ability to deal with the public with regard to conflict/complaints resolution.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be physically fit and able bodied.
  • Supervisory skills gained in urban environmental management.
  • Sound working knowledge of the governing acts and regulations, such as the National Environmental Management Act, the Biodiversity Conservation Act and the Marine Living Resources Act.


The incumbent will be required to work outside in all weather conditions and may have to contend with snakes and other wild animals in the execution of his/her duties.


Job purpose:

Undertaking, coordinating and directing tasks and activities in a designated area associated with the promotion of environmental conservation and ethical usage of natural areas in a sustainable manner by:


  • Performing duties related to the administration of marine/coastal resources and reserves and/or natural areas.
  • Developing the Municipal Open Space System, promoting and monitoring the biodiversity of the Metro, developing and maintain recreational space within  reserves and natural areas, creating public awareness.
  • Enforcing laws and by-laws
  • Performing related administrative and personnel functions supporting the accomplishment of service delivery objectives encapsulated in the Municipality’s Integrated Development Plan.


As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, security vetting and psychometric assessment.
